Remix de Muchachos
When the Providence Dept of Arts Culture and Tourism and the RI Dept of Transportation put out a Request for Proposals to design Bus Shelters and Bus Shelter Benches in the South Side of Providence myself and my AS220 Youth Students got busy. Together we started making human sized portrait characters collaged of hundreds of (as close as possible) photographs that we took of each other. Each character is literally a photographic remix of a dozen or more students from our three teaching sites. In this way students from the UCAP Middle School could be working on the same collage that would later be worked on by incarcerated students from the RI Training School to then be finished by students at the downtown Providence AS220 Youth studio. Together all of these characters created the vitality in two street life scene Murals that were installed as bus shelters in 2014.
