The Darkman Animation
For three days Myself, Edwin Pastore (Photo Assistant Extraordinaire) and Josh Padilla, aka Plan B (Sound Engineer) rooted ourselves in a community center in Akron Ohio to produce a live action stop motion animation with youth from the Alchemy program. Our animation and sound design needed to illustrate the myth titled “The Darkman and his Sooty Brother” that the Alchemy students had been studying earlier this year. On day one Team Sound Design got the crew of five students familiar with performing the text, while Team Visual’s ten students learned to photograph one another’s faces and started to paper mache the character masks. On day two Team Visuals used the eyes, ears, noses, hair and mouths of themselves and their fellow students to finish their character masks and started choreographing and photographing the thousands of individual photos needed for our animation. Team sound design recorded themselves performing the myth’s text. On day three Team Visuals continued choreographing and photographing scene after scene while Team Sound Design recorded supplemental sound effects and mastered the final audio piece. Back in our home town of Providence RI we finished and edited the final piece. Enjoy!
